The brains are an indication of the level of Lean manufacturing
knowledge that may be required to find a particular article worthwhile. 
They are designed to allow you seek the most applicable content to
your specific level of knowledge.  The more brains (between 1 and 3),
the higher the level.

Armed with this knowledge, the manager may develop an understanding of how continuous improvement activities are approached at Lean companies, and eventually how similar productivity gains can be achieved in their company.
