Implementing an Employee Suggestion System
At some time in their history, many companies have attempted to implement employee suggestion programs. It is probably no secret that many of these do not live up to their full expectations. In fact, several do not even survive the first 12 months, but instead fade out as the well intentioned initiative becomes just another passing management fad. This article examines the main reasons that suggestion programs fail. By using Toyota Production System (TPS) principles as a foundation, we also discuss actions that mid- and senior-level managers can take to ensure the long-term success of such initiatives.
